AUBURN — Ella Lavigne was a dominant force as Central Maine Community College beat University of Maine at Augusta 74-54 in a Yankee Small College Conference women’s basketball game Tuesday night at Kirk Hall.

Lavigne had game highs of 26 points, 16 rebounds and four steals, to go along with four assists for the Mustangs (18-1, 10-0 YSCC), who have won 12 straight games.

Oxford Hills grad Molly Corbett contributed 15 points for Central Maine, and Edward Little grad Chantel Ouellette compiled six rebounds and seven assists.

Alizabeth Dumont paced the Moose (12-4, 9-2 YSCC) with 15 points, while Sage Fortin and Hailey Paquet each scored 10.

MMA 69, UMF 46: Maria Barela tallied 14 points for the Mariners (14-4, 9-0 NAC), leading them to victory over the Beavers (7-14, 4-7) in Farmington.

Despite UMaine-Farmington putting 20 points on the board in the third quarter, Maine Maritime Academy maintained its lead throughout the game, nailing down the win.

Erianna Moore added another 11 points for the Mariners. Jessica Dow and Melissa Mayo each contributed 10 points for UMF.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

UMF 71, MAINE MARITIME 68: The Beavers (14-8, 7-5 NAC) pulled out a close win over the Mariners (9-11, 4-6) in Farmington.

Dylan Griffin led the charge with 18 points, four rebounds and four steals. Griffin sealed UMaine-Farmington’s fate, adding five points to the board for the Beavers in the last five seconds of the game. Simon Chadbourne added another 12 points for UMF.

Curt Heinz tallied a game-high 23 points, as well as two blocks and four steals for Maine Maritime (9-11, 4-6).

The last time the two teams faced each other was Dec. 12, and Maine Maritime pulled out the win, 69-66.

CMCC 96, UMA 66: Leavitt grad Wyatt Hathaway came off the bench and tallied 33 points, two rebounds an assist and a block for the Mustangs (9-10, 5-5 YSCC) in the blowout win over the Moose (12-9, 6-4) in Auburn.

Hathaway shot 9 of 13 from 3-point range and 12 for 18 overall. Boston Caldwell chipped in another 13 points for CMCC, as well as four rebounds and four assists.

Trevor Beals tallied 16 points, six rebounds three assists and three steals for UMaine-Augusta.

WEEKLY AWARDS

• Sarah Hughes’ standout week for the Bates women’s basketball team was noticed by a pair of organizations. The freshman guard was named the Rookie of the Week by the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and was selected to the D3hoops.come Team of the Week after totaling 19 points (6 for 9 shooting and 5 for 7 on 3s) and seven rebounds in a win over Middlebury and 10 points and nine rebounds in a win over Williams.

• University of Maine at Farmington’s Jessica Dow earned North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season following a week where she averaged 17 points, five rebounds and two steals per game.

• Lisbon grad Kiana Goldberg earned dual weekly honors while competing for the University of Southern Maine women’s indoor track team. She was named the Little East Conference’s Field Athlete of the Week and Field Rookie of the Week after winning the long jump at the Husky Invitational. In her first time competing in the event at the collegiate level, Goldberg had the five farthest marks of the competition, finishing with a winning leap of 5.29 meters.

• Mt. Blue grad Cyrus Evans was part of the USM distance medley relay team that won Little East men’s Relay of the Week accolades. The freshman was part of the Huskies’ relay team that won the event at the Husky Invitational.
