Alton E. Beal

LEWISTON – Alton E. Beal, 70, of Auburn, died Tuesday afternoon Jan. 23, 2024 at CMMC with family at his side. He was born in Jonesport on Feb. 3, 1953, one of five children born to Ernest and Leah (Urquhart) Beal. His early childhood years were in Jonesport and his education was in Ellsworth, graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1971.

Following high school, Alton enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until his Honorable Discharge, at which time he met and married his first wife, Beverly.

They were married for 27 years until her passing. On July 13, 2007, he married the former Charleen Redmun and together they settled in Ellsworth until their recent move back to the Auburn area.

In his early adult years, Alton enjoyed cooking and among his favorite enjoyments were reading cookbooks from cover to cover, as if they were novels, listening to “oldies” music from the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s, and watching old TV “westerns”. Alton also had an interest in and a passion for cars, especially older, vintage cars from years gone by.

Alton was a loving, caring, and hardworking husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind his wife of 16 years, Charleen Beal of Auburn; his son, Ernest Beal and wife Jessica of Las Vegas, Nev.; his granddaughter, Maelah Redmun of Lewiston; his father, Ernest Beal of Yarmouth; his sister, Charlotte Morse and husband Steven of Franklin, three brothers, Robert Beal and wife Sheila, Wayne Beal and

Larry Beal all of Ellsworth, three sisters-in-law, Aileen Veilleux and her significant other Bill Mickalide of Auburn, Kathy Haley and husband Don of Auburn, Christeen Redmun and her significant other Pete Clavet of Lewiston, one brother-in-law, Fred Redmun and his significant other Cecile Bosse of Danville; and many nieces and nephews.

Alton was predeceased by his son, Adam Redmun; his mother, Leah Beal, his mother-in-law, Thelma Redmun; and his first wife, Beverly Beal.

A celebration of Alton’s life will take place later in the spring, date, time and place to be announced, followed by interment in the family lot at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
