Dr. Daniel van Buren Submitted

BETHEL — Dr. Daniel van Buren, Board Certified Cardiologist, will present, ‘The Heart of the Matter: The ABCs of Congestive Heart Failure,’ at the Bethel Congregational Church, 32 Church Street, Bethel, on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The snow date is Feb. 29. The program is sponsored by ‘To Your Health’ of Western Mountains Senior College (WMSC). This free event is open to the public and all ages are welcome.

Dr. van Buren, a popular speaker for To Your Health, returns during American Heart Month for his tenth presentation to help educate the community about heart disease. He said, ‘Congestive heart failure is a serious condition in which the heart doesn’t pump blood as efficiently as it should.’

Despite its name, Dr. van Buren explains that heart failure does not mean the heart has failed or is about to stop working. He will discuss the causes, diagnosis, and treatment of congestive heart failure. The discussion will include a review of the CardioMEMs device, a novel medical device implanted within the circulatory system. It allows monitoring of pressures inside the heart helping to better guide heart failure therapy.

Dr. van Buren is the Director of Cardiovascular Medicine at the New England Heart Institute at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, NH. He is Board Certified in internal medicine, adult echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiovascular disease. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He completed his internal medicine and cardiology training in Brooklyn, NY, and resides in Bethel.

The program is sponsored as a community service by To Your Health of WMSC with the collaboration of Bethel Family Health Center and MSAD#44/Continuing Education. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be available. For more information, call 207-522-4625.
