LEWISTON — Bates College took control with a 17-4 run early in the second quarter and beat rival Bowdoin College 72-57 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women’s basketball Friday night at Alumni Gym.

Morgan Kennedy scored 19 points, while Elsa Daulerio and Sarah Hughes each added 14 for the Bobcats (19-2, 7-0 NESCAC).

Megan Tan scored 18 points for the Polar Bears (19-2, 6-2 NESCAC). Carly Davey added 14 and Jess Giorgio added 11.

HUSSON 46, UMF 27: Bailey Donovan was dominant for the Eagles (13-9, 8-3 NAC) in a win over the Beavers (7-14, 4-7 NAC) in Bangor.

Donovan had game-high totals in points, rebounds and blocks, with 21, 13 and five, respectively.

Jaycie Stevens scored a team-high eight points for University of Maine at Farmington, while Sarah Poli put up seven points and 12 rebounds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

UMF 49, HUSSON 44: Simon Chadbourne scored a game-high 19 points as the Beavers (15-8, 8-5 NAC) won a low-scoring battle against the rival Eagles (17-5, 8-3 NAC) in Bangor.

Chadbourne made four 3-pointers, and also collected four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Jordan Anthony added nine points and Zachary Mickle mustered eight points and eight rebounds for University of Maine at Farmington, which led 32-21 at halftime before Husson nearly rallied all the way back late in the second half.

Andre McCauley scored a team-high 13 points for Husson.

BOWDOIN 90, BATES 87, 2OT: Michael Simonds scored four of his 21 points in the second overtime as the Polar Bears beat the Bobcats in Brunswick.

Afamdi Achufusi made two foul shots with three seconds left to force the second overtime for Bowdoin, who tied it with 12 seconds left in the second half on a 3-pointer by Alex Halpern.

Achufusi scored 20 points and Halpern finished with 13 for Bowdoin. Ben Chilson added 18 points and nine rebounds.

Simon McCormick scored 34 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Bates. Brady Coyne added 14, while Peter Psyhogeos and Grant Nadeau each added 10.
