James Daniel Lee

POLAND – Our son, and everybody’s friend, James Daniel Lee, 40, of Poland passed away on Tuesday Jan. 16, 2024 from an unexpected illness. He was surrounded by friends and family at CMMC.

Jimmy graduated from Poland Regional High school and was employed as a furniture builder, yard maintenance laborer and carpenter.

Jimmy enjoyed many outdoor sports, and fishing was his passion. He could fish out of a mud puddle if you asked him to. From a small boy, fly fishing in Jackman, to walking along local brooks with his son, passing down all knowledge and stories of his life. Frog catching with his nephews, and tossing a football with whoever was willing with others.

Jimmy’s compassionate heart and welcoming smile touched the lives of those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. He exuded kindness and positivity wherever he went whether family or friends. He had a special talent for making everyone feel loved and valued. To know Jimmy was to understand the meaning of genuine friendship and unconditional love.

Jimmy leaves behind his son, Owen James Lee; mother, Julie Charest-Whittier, “Pops” supportive mentor and stepfather, Aaron Whittier, lifelong father, Keith Benson; two sisters, Kristina Benson, Brittney Lynn (Christopher) Arsenault; loving Nana, June Charest, “Nanny P” Nancy Pettigrow; uncles Roger and Roland Charest, aunt, Jean Hall; biological father, James (Naomi) Lee; and his nine half-siblings, as well as many more aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his “Pepe” Maurice Charest; grandparents Philip and Beverly Lee; and uncle Philip Lee Jr.

Friends and family are welcome to attend visiting hours on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. held at Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 26 W Dwinal St., Mechanic Falls.
