Several of our entrants correctly identified the statue of John the Baptist in the front of St. Athanasius & St. John Church at 126 Maine Avenue in Rumford. One of our loyal entrants, David Linehan wrote: “In 1905 a group of Franco Americans came together and purchased the land to build a Catholic Church. Construction on the church begin in 1906 and finished for Christmas midnight Mass in 1927.” In a random drawing from all the correct entries Judy Sanborn of Rumford was picked as the winner of the $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. She noted that when she went to Mass this past Sunday, she had the newspaper in her front seat and she parked in the same spot as the photographer who took the photo.
