MEN’S BASKETBALL
MCCORMICK HONORED: Bates College senior Simon McCormick was announced Tuesday as the Maine co-Player of the Week by the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association.

McCormick, a Cony High School graduate, averaged 30 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in two games for the Bobcats last week. That includes a career-high 34-point game in a double-overtime loss to Bowdoin on Friday. He also tallied seven rebounds and five assists in that game.

The following day, McCormick put up 26 points, six assists and five rebounds in a loss to Colby.

During those two games, McCormick shot a combined 11 of 23 from 3-point range.

McCormick shares the player of the week honors with Maine Maritime’s Curt Heinz.

UMF 88, THOMAS 65: Dylan Griffin’s 17 points were tops among five Beavers (16-8, 9-5 North Atlantic Conference) in double figure in their road win over the Terriers (8-15, 4-6) on Waterville.

Jordan Anthony added 13 points for UMaine-Farmington, while Simon Chadbourne scored 12 and Zachary Mickle and Brock Flagg contributed 10 points each.

The Beavers led by as many as 31 points in the victory, which is their seventh in a row.

Thomas’ James Phelan topped all scorers with 22 points. Parker Desjardins added 13 for the Terriers.

COLLEGE SWIMMING
CASSILY EARNS AWARD: Bates junior Sophie Cassily has been chosen as the NESCAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week for the second time in her career.

Cassily, and eight-time All-American, went undefeated in the backstroke and swam a season-best split in the Bobcats’ first-place 200 freestyle relay as Bates claimed a second consecutive CBB title.

Cassily’s 100 backstroke time ranks 14th in the country.

She is the second athlete on her team to earn NESCAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, joining Grace Wenger, who received the honor in November.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
THOMAS 57, UMF 45: Hannah Coolen led the Terriers (8-13) with 18 points in their win over the Beavers (7-13) in Waterville.

Sky Kubwalo finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds for Thomas.

Sarah Poli led the Beavers with 12 points, and Maddy White tallied nine points.
