Robert “Bob” Marcellino

PERU – Robert “Bob” Marcellino, 88 of Mexico, Maine, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter Maria and her husband Kerry Merrill, on Worthley Pond in Peru on Jan. 30, 2024, with his loving family at his side.

Bob was born on July 19, 1935, in Rumford. He was a 1953 graduate of Stephen’s High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, primarily stationed in Germany. Bob married Marie Rose “Claudia” Guay on Aug. 24, 1957. They were together for 59 years until her passing in 2017.

Soon after their marriage they moved to California together, where Bob worked as a manager of grocery stores. Upon returning to Maine in 1974, Bob opened Bob’s Kwik Stop, which he and Claudia owned and operated for thirty years. Bob loved running the store, from the customers who became friends, time spent playing cribbage in the back, and his later turn as a small-town wine connoisseur. He was a small-town celebrity, and a fixture in the fabric of high school students’ experiences for generations.

Bob loved New England sports. He was a true Monday morning quarterback discussing each team’s “areas of growth” with his friends after each weekend’s games. He was a lifetime member of both the American Legion and Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Gurschick of Auburn and Maria Merrill and her husband Kerry Merrill of Peru; his grandchildren, Andrew Gurschick and his husband Scott Kingnan of Ogden Dunes, Indiana, Matthew Gurschick of Lewiston, Kassie Merrill Olver and her husband Bill Olver of Boston, and Cory Merrill and his wife Danielle Merrill of Kennebunk; his great-grandchildren, Lilyahna Gurschick, Finley Merrill, Grace Merrill and Liam Olver; and Bob’s companion, Peggy Dickson from Mexico.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Claudia; his mother, Angelina Marcellino; beloved uncles, Tony, Paul, Michael, and John Marcellino; as well as his son-in-law, Kirby Gurschick.

A graveside service will occur this summer with interment at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Bob’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice.

Arrangements are under the care of Dan and Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington Maine, where memories, photos and condolences may be shared at dsfuneral.com.
