LIVERMORE FALLS — At the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls Sunday, Feb. 4 service Maggie Houlihan, Margaret Emery, Keyboards and Maggie Houlihan played inspirational music on the organ as parishioners gathered for worship.

Kay Watson welcomed all in attendance. She read announcements, then led the Congregation in singing two Praise Songs: “Praise the Name of Jesus”, and Praise Him, Praise Him”. Pastor Russ Thayer read the Call to Worship from Psalm 1, Verse 1. He led the Congregation into Prayer Time, after which we recited The Lord’s Prayer. The first Hymn was “Wonderful Grace of Jesus” followed by The Junior Sermon, “The Secret Box”.

Then came our “Happy Time”, time for Tithes and Offerings collection. Maggie and Margaret Emery played “Savior, Like A Shepherd, Lead Us” on organ and piano. The Worship Team sang “Rise and Shine”, while Cansis, Rubie, Ainsley and Sephie Widger sang and provided the hand motions to accompany the lyrics.

Pastor Russ used Scripture from the Book of Genesis, Chapter 6, Verses 1-14, to introduce the Sermon, which is titled, “Noah, Man of Faith”. Many of us know the story of Noah and the Ark. We learned it if we went to Sunday School during our childhoods, or we have heard the story from friends or parents and story books throughout our younger years.

Through centuries of hearing the story of Noah, many have questioned why he built an ark in the first place. Well, some thought him to be crazy, or thought he built it because he had nothing better to do. However, some thought him to be a servant of God, and when God spoke to Noah, Noah, went to work building and finishing the ark. Then, as God commanded, he found two of every animal he could find, and filled the ark with for the rain.

He proved to be a ‘man of faith’. He listened to God and proved to God he was a loyal servant and would follow wherever God would lead. It was not easy for Noah. When we hear God talking to us, He may not ask us to do things that make life easy for us, but when we listen and obey His commands, we will always do the “right things”.

God bless all who are “men and women of faith”! We sang the hymn, “Faith Is the Victory”, then proceeded to share Communion with Pastor Russ and the Deacons. At the end of the Communion meal, the congregation gathered in a circle around the sanctuary and we closed the service as we sang “Bind Us Together, Lord.”
