NAPLES — Lake Region High School Interact Club donated $1,000 to a school in Colombia for much-needed school supplies, as well as for food, shoes and clothing.

The LRHS Interact Club participated in several fundraisers in recent months to raise this money. They sold Colombian-themed maracas at a Music on Main event and held a raffle with prizes such as a Colombian-themed gift basket and a gift certificate to a Colombian restaurant in Portland.

They also held car washes and did wood stacking for local residents to raise funds, according to a news release from the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club.

Emma Bodwell, a member of the Rotary Club and chair of its International Committee, is traveling to a day center for children in Palermo, a community outside of Barranquilla, Colombia, and will share the supplies. She also plans to make connections with Interact Clubs in Colombia to facilitate future projects with the LRHS Club.

The Interact Club is a school-based organization sponsored by the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club and dedicated to service. These junior Rotarians have a commitment to Service Above Self, the Rotary motto.
