Yvonne (Roy) Bisson

LEWISTON – Yvonne (Roy) Bisson passed into the embrace of God while in the loving care of her daughter and son-in-law on Feb. 4, 2024. She joined her husband of 55 years, Roger, and newborn son, Paul in eternal peace. She remained an inspiration to all until the end.

With the exception of a year long adventure in Fort Worth, Texas with her son and daughter-in-law, she lived her entire life as a proud Franco American in Lewiston, Maine. She was born in 1934, the seventh of 13 children of Adelard and Antonia (Gauthier) Roy. Although she was born at the height of the Great Depression on the eve of World War II, she never complained about the challenges of her childhood. Instead, she recalled the love of her large family which grew exponentially as siblings married and had children. Alongside family, cousins, dear friends and close neighbors, she made joy in her life and became a perpetual optimist.

At 18, she met her beloved Roger at a Lewiston bowling alley. They soon married and had five children, the first of whom passed at birth. She and Roger built a loving home with faith, family and fun. They raised their family by example – committed to each other with an incredible work ethic to move forward. She devoted all that she had, both in and outside the home to provide for her family. Although there were health challenges and detours on their journey, her outlook remained constant –there was never any doubt that her glass was always mostly full. She was spunky, the life of the party and just fun to be around.

After Roger’s retirement from the Lewiston Police Department with their children grown, she became the co-pilot on a 15-year road trip around the country. They explored the sights, but to her

the joy was in the journey. Everywhere she went, she made friends and all were happy to know her. In her final years, she was the unofficial mayor of Montello Heights. If you were lucky to know her, she offered you a hand crocheted hat just like the hundreds she made for newborn babies leaving the hospital and other children in need. Although her health failed, her smiling spirit never did.

She is survived by four of her children, Linda and husband Michael Blais, Gary and wife Sheryl Bisson, Tina Andrews, John and wife Sue Champagne Bisson; grandchildren, Robert and wife Samantha Blais, Mark and wife Brittany Blais, Joshua Bisson and fiancée Sara Suleski, Leah Bisson, Austin Andrews, Aileen Andrews and fiancé Seamus Fitzpatrick-Rys, Matthew Bisson, Jocelyne Bisson and Emily Bisson; great-grandchildren, Cameron Blais, Isabella Blais, Audrey Blais, and Annie Brush; sister, Cecile and husband Roger Roy, brothers, Real Roy, Fernand and wife Louise Roy; in-laws, Stanley and wife Marielle Bisson, Albert Sirois, Jr. and Marie Roy; and life-long dearest friend, Jeannine Perron, all of whom meant the world to her.
