RUMFORD — From Jan. 30: Smart Care PT, Inc. (6-3, 2nd place) got a last-second turnaround jump shot from Cody St. Germain on an inbound pass that gave Hotel Rumford (8-1) their first loss of the season, 64-63. In a defensive battle that was close throughout, the second-place Smart Care team split the season series with The Hotel. Smart Care had 2 players in double figures, the St Germain brothers, Cody (20 points) and Nick (10). The Hotel had 3 top scorers, JT Taylor 20 points, Owen Jones 15 (4 threes) and Matt McCarthy 11 (3 threes). In other action at MVHS, A & G Custom Carpentry (6-3, third place) defeated Jay (3-6), 101-90. A & G double-digit scorers were Malik Farley’s 31 points, Kalen Chase’s 21, Joe Gaudreau with (4 threes) and Mateo Lapointe (3 threes) 13 each, and Keagan Pitcher, with 11. Steve Dougher paced Jay with 26 points (3 threes), followed by Logan Sumner with 22, Jake Turner with 15, and Levi Armandi with 13.

At MVMS, 2 noncompetitive games saw Mt Blue (6-3, third place) defeat Stix and Stones (0-9), 96-48. Mt Blue had 4 players with top scores, Kaiden Pillsbury with 32 points (4 threes), JT Williams, 23, Eric Berry with 22, and Kenyon Pillsbury with 19. Cody Dolloff had 23 points (7 threes) for S n S. Then Clean Cut Painting (5-4, fifth place) soundly defeated Dixfield (2-7), 102-61. Jevin Smith had a big game with 33 points. He was helped by Will Bean with 19 and Mike Pare with 15 points (3 threes). Dixfield was led by Glen Dubois with 7 threes, 21 points, Arick Richard with 16 (3 threes), and Cam Godbois and Gavin Hebert, 12 points each.

 

A & G knocks off Hotel Rumford

RUMFORD — From Feb. 4: A & G Custom Cabinets and Carpentry (7-3, 2nd place) played a well-balanced game and pulled off an upset, giving Hotel Rumford (8-2, 1st place) its second straight loss, 84-73.  The game was close until A & G pulled away late, highlighted by some good defense, turnover conversions, and clutch shooting. Meanwhile, The Hotel simply went flat.  A & G placed 5 players in double figures in their new look, balanced offense, Mateo Lapointe 20 points (3 threes), Keagan Pitcher 15 (4 threes), Malik Farley and Kalen Chase 14 each, and Joe Gaudreau 11.  The Hotel’s high scorers were Tom Danylik 29, JT Taylor 16 (4 threes), and Owen Jones, with 10.

In another competitive game, Mt Blue (7-3, 4th place) got a foul on a last-second three-point attempt from 28 feet, as Justin Evens hit 3 foul shots to seal a 94-91 victory over Clean Cut Painting (5-5, 5th place). The foul was vehemently protested and induced technical fouls that made the win an afterthought. Mt Blue’s Cam Sennick was tough inside and led with 28 points, Turner added 22 (4 threes), Jake Farnum 20 (6 threes), and Levi Meader, 11 points. Clean Cut’s Will Bean had an excellent all-around game, including 29 points (5 threes), Jeven Smith had 24, Al Smith 15, and Sean Caddigan with 10.

In other games, Jay (4-6, 6th place) ran away from Dixfield (2-8, 7th place) in the second half, beating them, 77-50. Jay was led by Logan Sumner with 34 points (4 threes), Levi Armandi with 16 (4 threes), and Steve Dougher with 11.  Dixfield had 3 high scorers, Jake Bessey and Arick Richard had 14 points and Gavin Hebert had 12. Then Smart Care PT Inc (7-3, 2nd place) annihilated Stix & Stones (0-10), 107-50. The winning team’s Trenton Hutchinson ran wild with 35 points (5 threes).  He was helped by Dakota Tompkins’s 22 points (6 threes), Austin Adams’s 19 (4 threes), and Ben Holmes’s 17.  S & S’s Trey Lane had a team-high 25 points.
