Any momentum the Twin City Thunder hoped to gain from an early second-period goal was wiped out by AJ Noel’s second goal of the game for the Islanders Hockey Club.

Noel’s response regained a two-goal lead for the host Islanders, who skated away to a 4-1 victory in a USPHL NCDC game Friday afternoon in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts.

Max Lundgren and Noel scored first-period goals to put Islanders HC up 2-0 at the first intermission.

Ervin Terwilliger scored from Aidan Bender to cut the Thunder’s deficit in half just 91 seconds into the second period. Twin City outshot Islanders HC 9-7 in the middle frame, but Noel’s goal at the six-minute mark even the period scoring and stretched the host’s lead to 3-1.

Michael Lynch finished up the scoring late in the third period.

Ludwig Svensson made 20 saves on 24 shots in goal for the Thunder (12-22-2-0, 26 points). Benjamin Skelton stopped 22 of 23 shots for the New England division-leading Islanders (28-7-4-1, 61 points).

Neither team converted on its power play opportunities, the Thunder squandering their three chances and the Islanders shut out in their lone man advantage.

The Thunder are back in action Saturday night when they host the Northern Cyclones at 7 p.m. at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.
