Visitors to Norway Memorial Library can view an art exhibit in the reference room during September and October. “With All Due Respects, Enough Already” features mixed-media paintings on canvas and wood by Peter Herley.

Herley has been part of the arts scene, both as an observer and a participant, as far back as he can remember. Born and raised in New Jersey, he was introduced to art in preschool when he learned to draw and finger paint. His father often took him to museum exhibits in New York City. He was enthralled by Jackson Pollack’s work and wanted to be as good as him.

He now calls Norway, Maine, his home but has lived in New York City, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine, and Eugene, Oregon. He attended Middlesex County College in Edison, New Jersey, and gained his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts at Rutgers University. His artwork was published in Café Review, Portland Monthly, Casco Bay Weekly, Eugene Weekly, Sonar Map, Lane Transit District, Luna China, and Up and Now. He has shown his work worldwide in the past forty years, through mail art and regular exhibitions. From 1998 through 2014, he participated in many Eugene Springfield Art Project group shows, New Zone Art Collective group shows in Eugene, Oregon, and New Zone shows in both Astoria and Lebanon, Oregon.

His most recent shows have been in libraries, coffee houses, art centers, and storefronts in Bangor and Norway, Maine, and Eugene, Oregon.

This display is on view whenever the library is open. Norway Memorial Library is located at 258 Main St., Norway.
