Evelyn Hotham

RUMFORD – Evelyn Hotham, 90, died Wednesday Feb. 14, 2024, at the Rumford Community Home. She resided on Prospect Ave in Rumford.Evelyn was born in Madison on June 20, 1933, and was a daughter of Emile and Gertrude (Metivier) Cote. She was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1951 in Rumford.

Evelyn was married to Glenn “Skip” Hotham on Sept. 29, 1952, in Rumford.

She began her career at Crawford’s Market and later worked in various local grocery stores as a Deli Manager. She retired at the age of 77. Evelyn was a Communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior St. Athanasius St. John’s Church. She was a member of St Timothy Circle #504, Daughters of Isabella. She was known for her festive earrings and knitting her famous “Ugly Slippers”.

She is survived by her son Philip (Carol) of Mexico, daughters, Victoria (Wayne) DeBerry of Yorktown, Va., and Denise (Anthony) Glazier of Woburn, Mass.; a brother, James Cote of Rumford, sisters, Marie (Doyle) Woods of Rumford and Deborah (Mark) Anderson of Saco; grandchildren Stephenie DeBerry, Jeffrey (Cathy) DeBerry, Jason (Heidi) Hotham, Katie (Michael) LaPolla, Corey (Sarah) Hotham, Samuel (Celeste) Hotham, Matthew (Courtney) Glazier and April (Ryan) Romano; 14 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, siblings Philip Cote, Marguerite Wemernchuck, John “Jack” Cote, Remi Cote, and Richard “Dicky” Cote.

The family would like to thank Julie Knapp, the Rumford Community Home, Androscoggin Home Health Care, and Hospice for their care and kindness for Evelyn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday May 4, 2024, at the Parish of The Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church 126 Maine Ave, Rumford, ME 04276. Interment will be in St John Cemetery.
