Jean M. Camire
LEWISTON – Jean M. Camire, 86, formerly of Leeds, peacefully passed away at Montello Manor in Lewiston on the morning of Monday Feb. 12, 2024. She was born April 1, 1937 in Riley, Maine, a daughter of the late Eugene and Clara (Williams) Allaire. She attended elementary school in a two room schoolhouse in Riley and also Jay High School. One of her proudest accomplishments was when she went back to school and received her high school diploma well into her 50’s.
On Oct. 14, 1977, she married Armand Camire, (known to her as “Hun”), and they spent many happy years together. Jean worked at various local shoe shops and also worked as a housekeeper for Bates College. After her retirement, Jean volunteered for over 10 years at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
Jean was well known for her spaghetti sauce and peanut butter fudge and would happily bring it to many family gatherings. She loved the ocean. In younger years, she’d sit for hours under the pier at Old Orchard beach, just listening to the waves.
Her family was very important to her…always checking in to make sure everyone was OK. She became quite savvy on her iPad, and if she wasn’t on Facebook, we would have to call to make sure she was OK.
She cherished her many grandchildren and great grandchildren beyond words. She was known to us as Jean, Mom, Grammie-Jean, Ma-Jean and Nannie. No one will be missed more.
Missing her are her children, Cathy Higgins, Lisa Voter and her husband Doug, Mona Gladu and her husband Bob, David and his wife Judy. Also, Cyndy Bell, Dan Camire and his wife Lorraine, John Camire and his wife Giselle, Tim Camire and his wife Cyndy, Joy Crocket and Bill Austin, Penny Case and her husband Brian, Caroline Last and her husband John, and Lisa Camire O’Neal.
She is survived by her brother Gene. She was predeceased by her loving husband Armand along with her sisters Muriel, Corinne and Evelyn.
