Gerald “Gary” R. Wheeler

AUBURN – Gerald “Gary” R. Wheeler, 74, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, at Clover Health Care in Auburn.

He was born in Lewiston on April 24, 1949, the son of Wendell and June (Reynolds) Wheeler. He graduated from Buckfield High School and obtained an associate degree from CMCC.

He worked as a mechanic, truck driver, and served in the U.S. Army Reserve. His passions were racing, target shooting at the local gun clubs, and most of all spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his children, Cara Dyer and her husband, Patrick, of Harrison, Lana Wheeler and her partner, Brian, of Bridgton, and Josh Fortier and his partner, Laura, of Auburn; his grandchildren, Aella Dyer, Jebidiah Taylor, Jarrod Taylor; and a great-grandchild, Carliah; his brother, Wendell Wheeler and his wife, Pat, of Auburn, his sister, Joan Pelletier and her husband, Dan, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his loving parents Wendall and June Wheeler; and his longtime companion, Carla Fortier.

In keeping with Gary’s wishes, a graveside service will be held in the spring at Norway Pine Grove Cemetery in Paris.
