The Rotary Club of Bridgton-Lake Region is set to host a speaker on the eclipse at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, at the Magic Lantern on Depot Street in Bridgton.
Edward Herrick-Gleason, director of the Southworth Planetarium at the University of Southern Maine in Portland since 1999, will cover the basic of eclipses and keep the talk informative and geared to both youth and adults. He writes the Daily Astronomer blog and has been a contributor to Astronomy Magazine.

The eclipse will occur Monday, April 8. The club is offering special glasses for $2 to view the event.
Visit lakeregionrotary.com or the club’s Facebook page for more information. The club meets the second, third and fourth Thursdays at 7:30 a.m. at Stella’s on the Square, 6 North High St. in Bridgton.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
