BASKETBALL

Neemias Queta, JD Davison and DJ Steward each recorded a double-double as the Maine Celtics cruised to a 130-100 win over the Westchester Knicks in an NBA G League game on Sunday at the Portland Expo.

Queta finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds and five assists for Maine, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Davison added 23 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, while Steward had 21 point and 12 rebounds.

Drew Peterson and Jordan Walsh each scored 16 points each for the Celtics, while Brandon Slater added 10.

Charlie Brown Jr. and Brandon Goodwin scored 24 points each for Westchester.

NBA: Miami’s Jimmy Butler and New Orleans’ Naji Marshall have been suspended for one game apiece for instigating an on-court altercation, the NBA announced.

The incident happened during the Heat-Pelicans game Friday night.

Miami’s Thomas Bryant and New Orleans’ Jose Alvarado were both handed three-game suspensions for fighting and leaving the bench area. Miami’s Nikola Jovic also got a one-game suspension for leaving the bench area and entering the altercation, the league said.

• The Atlanta Hawks lost All-Star point guard Trae Young for at least four weeks with a left hand injury.

The Hawks announced that Young suffered a torn ligament in the fifth finger of his left hand during Friday night’s loss to Toronto. Young will have surgery Tuesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

• Grayson Allen scored 24 points, Kevin Durant added 22 and the Phoenix Suns pulled away late in the fourth quarter to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 123-113 in Phoenix.

HOCKEY

ECHL: Adam Mechura recorded a hat trick as the Maine Mariners beat the Cincinnati Cyclones in Cincinnati.

Fedor Gordeev, Chase Zieky and Wyllum Deveaux also scored for Maine. Kyle Keyser stopped 24 shots to earn the win.

Zack Andruskiak scored three times for the Cyclones.

NHL: Nikita Kucherov had a goal and three assists and became the first player in the league to reach 100 points this season in leading the Tampa Bay Lightning to a much-needed 4-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils in Newark, New Jersey.

Kucherov leads the NHL with 102 points. Victor Hedman, Brayden Point and Brandon Hagel were the recipients of Kucherov’s 62nd, 63rd and 64th assists of the season and he added his 38th goal. Jonas Johansson made 18 saves in giving Andrei Vasilevskiy a rare day off.

GOLF

PGA TOUR: PGA Tour rookie Jake Knapp lost a four-shot lead in seven holes and then held it together with a remarkable short game, closing with an even-par 71 to win the Mexico Open at Vidanta in Vallarta, Mexico, and earn a trip to the Masters.

Knapp, who finished at 19-under 265, won in his fifth start of his rookie season. Along with winning $1,458,000 and moving into the top 10 in the FedEx Cup, the 29-year-old Californian is headed to the Masters and PGA Championship. He also gets into the remaining five $20 million signature events, starting with Bay Hill in two weeks.

Sami Valimaki made par for a 69 to finish runner-up, still a big boost to his rookie season.

Valimaki was among the leading 10 players from the European tour to earn PGA Tour cards this year.

LPGA TOUR: Local favorite Patty Tavatanakit held off a fast-finishing Albane Valenzuela to clinch the LPGA Thailand by one stroke in Chonburi, Thailand.

The 24-year-old Bangkok native showcased her prowess with a brilliant approach shot to tap in an easy birdie on the final hole to card a final round 67, finishing at 21 under-par-267 at Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course.

MLS: Sean Johnson made seven saves and Toronto FC played FC Cincinnati to a scoreless draw in a season opener in Cincinnati.

Johnson turned away four shots in the second half to earn the clean sheet for Toronto, which has opened a season on the road in six straight and 16 of its 17 seasons since joining the league. Toronto snapped a four-game losing streak to Cincinnati.

Roman Celentano made one save in each half in his shutout effort for Cincinnati — winners of the Supporters’ Shield last season.

ENGLISH LEAGUE CUP: Jurgen Klopp’s hopes of a trophy-laden end to his Liverpool reign are off to a good start.

Liverpool won a record-extending 10th English League Cup trophy after beating Chelsea 1-0 in extra time at Wembley.

Virgil van Dijk headed in a 118th-minute winner to secure Klopp’s eighth major piece of silverware as Liverpool manager and keep him on track for a quadruple of trophies in his final year with the club. Klopp will step down at the end of the season and looks determined to go out on a high.

SPANISH LEAGUE: Luka Modric came off the bench and lifted Real Madrid to a 1-0 win over Sevilla by scoring from long range to keep his team firmly in control of the Spanish league title race.
