Clarice Dunham

SOUTH PARIS – Clarice Dunham, 91, of Dixfield, Maine, peacefully passed away Feb. 22, 2024, joining her beloved husband, Joseph, and son, Ernest. She was born Dec. 1, 1932, to Ernest and Louise Cook.

She married Joseph Dunham June 3, 1951, and their son, Ernest, was born June 23, 1954. Clarice was a beloved and active member of the community. After completing a degree at the University of Maine Farmington, she pursued a teaching career in Maine public schools, in particular Peru Elementary, specializing in special education. An accomplished musician, she taught private piano lessons, transmitting her passion for the arts to many young people in the area. She was the organist at the Dixfield Church of the Nazarene for over 60 years, where she also taught Sunday school and served on the board. She put her faith into practice in all areas of her life, leading by example with kindness and compassion.

She is survived by siblings and their spouses: Vernon Cook, Robert and Lorna Cook, Leanne and Clifford Norton. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Theresa Dunham, and her granddaughter and spouse, Nicole and Marie-Lise. Clarice left a mark on the hearts of all the people she encountered, and was greatly helped and supported by a loving community of friends in the last years of her life, who treated her as a member of their families. Her family extends their profound gratitude for these countless acts of kindness.

A celebration of life and service will be held at the Dixfield Church of the Nazarene on Saturday March 2, 2024 at 2 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 45 Main St., South Paris.
