Owen E. Morton
SOUTH PARIS – Mr. Owen E. Morton, 91, reunited with his wife of 45 years on Monday Feb. 19, 2024. He spent the last six years as a resident of the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris.
Owen was born in Andover, on Dec. 1, 1932, and was a son of Eldwin and Dora (Hutchins) Morton.
After graduating from Andover High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1951 to 1958 at Mac Dill in Tampa, Fla., Naha Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, and other locations around the world. Owen was the oldest member of the American Legion Post 24, in Rumford, for 55-plus years.
Upon returning to Andover, he met and married Virginia Jodrey on Sept. 17, 1960, who passed away in Andover on Dec. 19, 2005.
He worked at Andover Wood Products, a Division of Ethan Allen for 30-plus years until he retired in 1997. While working there he was honored by their President for his hard work and dedication at the corporate headquarters in Danbury, Conn.
Owen enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, hiking, snowmobiling. Owen and his family visited Baxter State Park for many years climbing Mt. Katahdin. He was committed to attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events year-round. Owen was member of the Pineland Ski Club of Andover for years. Passing on his passion for cross country skiing to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and NASCAR on television, and even attending a few live events in Boston and Loudon. He enjoyed the annual Oxford 250 along with the weekly races at the Oxford Plains Speedway with his children and grandchildren. Owen took pride in his vegetable gardens and large firewood pile that he worked up for the winter months.
He is survived by his sons Richard and Michael of Andover, Thomas of Freeport, Fla., and daughter Sandra Wentzell and husband Raymond of Peru, and daughter-in-law Gloria of Rumford Point, grandchildren, Travis Morton and wife Amy of New Gloucester, Tyler Morton and wife McKenzie of Rumford, Jennifer Wentzell of Mexico, Michael Wentzell of Buckfield, and Amanda Wentzell of South Paris, a brother Wayne of Andover, and sister Priscilla Hodgkins of Roxbury, many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to him as well. He was predeceased by his brother, George, Hugh, Otis and Hanson.

Funeral will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Andover Congregational Church. Interment will take place in the Spring at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford, on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
