The Age Friendly Community “Walk the Gym” program has seen about 50 people turn out at least once this winter season to stretch their legs and visit with others at the Gould Academy Field House. They meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1 to 2 p.m., but will take off March 5 and 7 and resume the following week. Join them!
AFCI FREE Professional Home Safety Assessment  – Feel more confident about aging-in-place. Learn about your risk of falls in the privacy of your home. Occupational Therapist Brie Weisman will review your strength, range of motion, and balance, and will look at areas of your home that may put you at increased risk of falls.
A written assessment will be provided including adaptive equipment recommendations and measurements for where to install grab bars, hand rails and ramps. The assessment will provide exact details so professionals can install necessary items when you are ready for the next step. Call 824-4444 to set it up.
N2N, our Neighbor to Neighbor free rides program, helps community members get to a wide variety of activities as well as visit friends. We also deliver library books, food from the Food Pantry and groceries from Mainely Provisions in Bethel. If you would like to take advantage of this service call the organization, then call our N2N service number (below) and leave a message with your ride request and contact information.
N2N Rides needs volunteer drivers and people to serve as call coordinators. The latter involves responding to our phone-answering machine requests for service, requiring only minimal computer skills.

While AFCI offers its own programs, we also highlight others that benefit area seniors.For example, there’s SeniorsPlus, which serves Oxford, Androscoggin and Franklin counties. While based in Lewiston, they also have an office in Norway.
They will help connect you with resource and referral information, assistance with applications, Medicare information, home care services and assistance looking at long-term options long-term care. And they offer meal delivery programs, such as Meals on Wheels.
