Sally Ann Beaulieu Deane

AUBURN – Sally Ann Beaulieu Deane, 85, of Jay, Maine, passed away peacefully on Feb. 25, 2024, following a brief illness. She was born in Livermore Falls on Sept. 16, 1938, the daughter of Harry and Mary Lesko Beaulieu. Sally grew up on Botka Hill in Livermore and was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School. On Jan. 27, 1956, at St. Rose of Lima Church, Sally married Ronald E. (Red) Deane. Together they raised their four children, Ronald Jr., Steven, Katherine, and Susan, in a house they built on Oak Street in Jay, Maine. As a young mother, Sally maintained a pristine home and busily nurtured her children. The Deane family shared many camping adventures. A favorite destination was the Beaulieu camp in Shippagan Island, New Brunswick, Canada, where lobsters, clams, and new friendships were aplenty.

Sally worked for the Jay School Department lunch program for 25 years. She retired from this job in 1992 but she never stopped feeding people. If you were a friend, relative, neighbor or even a casual acquaintance you’ve probably enjoyed food and treats lovingly prepared by Sally. Her signature fudge and whoopie pies have been attempted by others but will never be recreated in Grammie fashion.

Gardening was a favorite pastime of Sally’s. If you dropped by her home on a spring or summer day you would find her busily digging in the soil cultivating her beautiful flowers or vegetables. She wasn’t one to sit still, preferring to stroll the beach at Perdido Key or walk around her neighborhood in Jay. During the winter months she worked on puzzles and read a variety of books.

Upon retirement, Red and Sally enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe.

In 1995 they purchased a unit at the Eden Condos on Perdido Key, Florida, facing the beautiful Gulf of Mexico outside Pensacola. They became typical snowbirds, meeting wonderful new friends and sharing many pleasurable activities.

Sally exhibited deep love and pride for her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest source of joy in her later years. She hosted family gatherings whenever possible, acknowledged all birthdays. and handed out a free flow of hugs. To say that Sally will be tremendously missed is an understatement.

Sally is survived by her sons, Ronald Deane Jr. and wife Laurie, and Steven Deane of Jay, daughters, Katherine and husband Michael Legere of Orrington, and Susan and husband Gerald Butler of Townsend, Georgia. She leaves behind her loving grandchildren, Eric and Jennifer Deane of Scarborough, Janna and Jason Gregoire of Lothian, Maryland, Alisa Deane of Breckinridge, Colorado, Kristen and Stephen Carroll of Collegeville, Pennsylvania, Deborah and Ben Beaulieu of Glenburn, Jason Legere of Orrington, and Lauren and Sam Perkins of Bloomington, Indiana. Also missing her will be great-grandchildren Cameron, Maya, and Chase Deane, Stephen and Sophia Carroll, Madeleine, Embden, and Lillian Gregoire, Owen Swazey, and Everleigh Beaulieu. Other surviving family members include Jill Deane, Kay Beaulieu, James Deane, Sterling and Linda Deane, dear nieces, and nephews, along with friends near and afar.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Ronald (Red) Deane Sr., brother Harry Beaulieu, in-laws Milton and Louise Deane, Sylvia and Steve Ridley, Lester Deane, Diane Deane, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Sally’s family wants to convey our appreciation to the staff at Clover Manor, Androscoggin Hospice Care and St. Mary’s Health Systems. These wonderful people made Sally’s transition tranquil for all of us. We also want to thank her dear friend and neighbor, Rene Bibeau. Your regular visits, conversation, plowing, yard work and so much more meant the world to Sally and all of us.
