DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to thank Cindy for donating the metal bed frame I was looking for. It was appreciated.

I am now looking for some children’s books. The books are titled, “Warriors” by Erin Hunter. I used to find them at bookstores, but the ones where I bought them are closed now. I shop at Goodwill and Salvation Army to see if they have them and occasionally, they do. If anyone has these books and are willing to give them a new home, I would be interested and can offer some money for them.

Please leave me a message at 207-784-4214 and I will get back to you. Thank you, Ms. Sun Spots, for all you do for your readers. You are the best. — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: I am glad Sun Spots has been able to help you find items you need. Let me know what happens with this request.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the Feb. 26 Sun Spots asking about over-the-counter hearing devices. Since about 2014, I’ve used more than three different models of the Eargo brand. They work and allow me to survive conversations I previously had trouble with.

As I’m just starting with their newest, the Eargo 7, I doubted they would enable me to hear female voices. The company gave me an extra 30 days on their 60-day trial and I finally had a hearing test. With that test, I learned I had severe industrial-caused hearing loss that no hearing aids could help with.

After the test, I went for a few days without my new hearing aids and realized they really could not help with certain sounds like female voices but I’ve decided to keep them for the other benefits they deliver. This includes a 16-hour daily battery life completely in the ear feature, a built-in hearing test, a two-year warranty, and the ability to suppress restaurant and other background noise.

Cochlear hearing aids could help me but I know that what I have does, to a degree, help, and that’s why I’m reasonably satisfied. Check those and other over-the-counter brands for yourself. — Dave, Turner

ANSWER: I appreciate your recommendation, Dave, and have learned through this question that everyone has different auditory issues and needs. I stand by the retired audiologist who wrote in last Friday. Get a hearing test first and go from there.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Nov. 9, 2023, I sent an email asking for your help in finding someone to repair a K45 KitchenAid stand mixer from a company located in Troy, Ohio. It would be very expensive for me to mail it through the mail as it is very heavy. I would prefer a repairperson from the Lewiston-Auburn area to fix it if possible. Thank you for your help. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I understand what you’re saying and I believe the company does help with mailing fees. Meanwhile, I hope a fellow Sun Spotter who can help will write in to offer assistance. There are YouTube videos showing how to fix these small appliances once you have the right parts in hand.
