Singer-songwriter Jerry Joe Carrier will perform pieces on the classical guitar at the Oasis of Music at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at Trinity Commons in Lewiston.

Carrier resides in Auburn and is an accomplished musician with an amazing vocal range currently performing as an acoustic solo act. His introduction to music began at a very early age, first hearing the pipe organ and listening to symphonic recordings his priest uncle passed on to him. He took up guitar lessons at fourteen and progressed into playing lead guitar for many music groups throughout the decades, performing in almost all of the counties in the state of Maine. He became fascinated with the sound of the nylon-string classical guitar in his late teens upon hearing the hit record “Classical Gas.”

Ever since, Carrier has continued to study and perform on the classical guitar, often with improvisation. His  influences include the 19th century composers Fernando Sor and Tarrega, plus modern era performers, including Jose Feliciano, Segovia, Julian Bream, John Williams, Carlos Montoya, and Lenny Breau.

The Oasis of Music is a weekly music series of performances of roughly thirty minutes, running from September to May. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The musical genres vary greatly, in largely, but not exclusively, acoustic formats. Trinity Commons is located at 247 Bates St., Lewiston. For more information, call 207-344-3106.
