LIVERMORE FALLS — At the Sunday, March 3, First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls service, the 10:30 service opened as Kay Watson welcomed all in attendance, after which she read a few Announcements. We sang two Praise Songs: “Give Thanks” and “Honor and Praise”.

Rev. Russ Thayer read the Call to Worship from Psalm 140, Verses 12 & 13. We entered into Prayer Time, offering prayers for those who need prayers for illnesses, surgeries and other reasons, as well as praises for friends who have been out of church because of illnesses or on vacations.

Our first hymn was : “The Church’s One Foundation”, followed by The Junior Sermon, “Secret Box”. Pastor Thayer then announced it was time for Tithes and Offerings, or as we call it: “Happy Time”, because it is a privilege to give to the Lord in order to maintain His Church. On keyboards, Maggie Houlihan & Margaret Emery played: “Savior, Like A Shepherd, Lead us”. The Worship Team sang: “Walk With Me”.

Pastor Russ introduced the Sermon, titled: “Jesus Prays – For His Disciples”, as he read Scripture from the Book of John 17, Verses 6 – 19. Jesus prayed to God, His Father that God would be with the Disciples, just as He had been with Jesus for His entire life.

When Jesus became an adult and went in search of men to follow Him and learn from His teachings, He chose several who were unlikely to become Disciples. They were hard-working men of the world who struggled to make their way. Jesus taught them what it means to become a follower of God and to teach and spread God’s word wherever they went.

God has selected us to become His Disciples. we did not choose Him. It is our task to lead lives that glorify God; whether we are musicians, carpenters, bankers, teachers or another profession, we need to bring glory to God, doing our very best.

Jesus gave the Disciples specific reasons to go out into the world to seek more followers and bring more glory to God, the Father. God has chosen us as His Disciples, and He has given us the same tasks. As God’s Disciples, use your gifts and your knowledge of God’s lessons and spread His teachings whenever you find an opportunity to bring glory to God, living a Christian life!

The Service ended as we sang our last Hymn: “I Am Praying For You”, followed by Communion(The Lord’s Table). After all had been served, the Congregation stood and formed a circle around the Sanctuary as we sang: “Bind Us Together”.
