POLAND — The Select Board learned Tuesday night that the traffic light installation at the intersection of routes 26 and 122 is set to start in mid-March.

Town Manager Matt Garside said he attended a preconstruction meeting and was told it should be completed by midsummer.

Board Chairwoman Jane Pentheny said she was glad work would begin and echoed the sentiment of many who think that the intersection is the site of “a fatality waiting to happen.”

Garside also told the board the town was selected by the Maine Department of Transportation to receive a $36,188 grant from the Maine Infrastructure Adaptation Fund. The money will be used to connect the area around Ricker Memorial Library and the public parking areas to the stormwater drainage system on Route 26.

Public Works Director Adam Strout received Select Board approval to extend the road paving contract with Spencer Group Paving of Turner, which will honor the prices from 2023 for additional work in 2024.

The board also gave Strout approval to begin immediately posting weight restrictions on selected town roads.
