To the Editor:

We’re in the midst of a very real crisis: the systematic dismantling of our children’s innocence. We’ve come to a time in our society where the normal, logical moral boundaries have been replaced by progressive leftist ideologies.

These ideologies are rooted firmly in Cultural Marxist thinking. A key component to pushing this kind of thinking is to indoctrinate children at a very young age. Mold the mind of a child early, and you can establish how they think throughout their lives.

At a recent SAD 44 School Board meeting, the Board members voted 11 to 4 in favor of keeping a book, ‘Me, Earl, and The Dying Girl’, in their school library, which contains extremely sexually explicit material.

No moral, logically thinking person would read this book and come to the conclusion that this is appropriate reading material for middle school-aged children. I would argue that this type of book should not be made available to any school-aged children, in any public school, period.

The goal of this Cultural Marxist agenda, which may not be understood or realized at the local level, is to indoctrinate young minds with adult themes for the purpose of dismantling all the moral boundaries that have made our American culture and families strong.

Parents must be aware of, and involved in, every aspect of their children’s education, which includes being educated about laws that directly impact what materials their children are being exposed to.

According to Maine State law, Title 17: Chapter 93-A: OBSCENITY; §2911. Dissemination of obscene matter to minors, educators are exempt from criminality concerning the dissemination of sexually explicit materials.

It is evident that we can’t rely on our educators or School Board members to make good moral judgments regarding the materials made available to our children with the current law.

Educators and Board members sit safely behind the wording of Title 17 and the IJJ Library-Media Materials Selection procedure, while any other person would be charged with a class C crime for giving the same material to children in a park or on the street.

Educators must be held accountable for their actions concerning the willful and deliberate dissemination of obscene and carnal material.

‘Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.’ ~ Isaiah 5:20-21
