To the Editor:
As a member of the Gilead School Board, I wrote a letter to the Superintendent of MSAD#44 on February 28, 2024 and mailed on February 29, 2024 explaining that Gilead has a legal contract with the said organization for school bus services with an exchange of money occurring.
Enclosed is the letter that I sent as above-mentioned. Thank you!

Dear Superintendent:
It has come to my attention from reading the local newspaper of February 15, 2024 that MSAD#44 will not provide school bus service to the Gilead students.
Since I no longer have children attending MSAD#44, that is how I learned of this issue.
I have asked the administrative assistant of Gilead to provide to me a copy of the contract with MSAD#44 and the Town of Gilead for school bus services which she did.
As a current member of the Gilead School Board as an elected officer, I have a legal fiduciary duty to defend the people of Gilead, otherwise, if I don’t, then I have breached said duties, and can be held accountable.
Furthermore, the Town of Gilead has engaged in a contract with MSAD#44 to provide school bus services, and there is an exchange of money. It is an agreement between parties to perform something legally.
By not providing school bus services by MSAD#44 to Gilead students, this is an obvious lack of performance that was specified in the contract.
In other words, this is a legal violation of the said contract and is enforceable by law. It is an infringement of a lawful obligation.
When I stopped by the Gilead town office on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, the administrative assistant told me that school bus services were still not being provided.
Suggestion: Please contact a lawyer to see how this issue can be rectified as soon as possible as the Gilead students need this service, and it is important to execute what the contract specifies.
Thanking you in advance for your assistance,
Lise Dupont McLain,
Gilead School Board member
