WILTON — The Wilton Select Board voted at the meeting on Tuesday, March 5, to set the date for the annual town meeting Monday, June 17, with a unanimous vote of 4 to 0. Chairperson Tiffany Maiuri was unable to attend the meeting and Vice-Chair Mike Wells attended the meeting via Zoom.

Time and location are currently to be determined. Academy Hill School, located at 585 Depot Street, was suggested for the location. Town Manager Maria Greeley stated they would set a location and time once the date was approved by the Select Board.

Academy Hill School served as the location for the annual town meeting last year.

In other business, Greeley presented a budget schedule for the town’s annual budget to the selectpersons. The Select Board made no issue with the schedule as presented and no motion to amend the schedule was made.

Greeley proposed to the Select Board an adjustment to the meeting schedule for the month of April. The Select Board voted to move the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, to the following week on Tuesday, April 23.

Greeley stated the change would allow for a break in the meeting schedule as the Select Board and the finance committee will  be meeting every Monday that month to discuss the town budget.

“There are some vacations scheduled for this week,” Greeley stated. “I know it’s school vacation and family vacations and stuff. It was just brought up as a suggested change to our April meetings.”

She added the break would allow the town office to put together the Town Warrant and have it ready for approval for Tuesday, April 23.

Greeley announced the town office would be switching to TRIO Payroll in the interest of reducing costs. The Select Board voted unanimously on the new software.

Currently, payroll for the town is weekly, which Greeley states is time consuming and costly.

“I believe that paychecks last year we did for $13,000,” she stated. By switching to TRIO, she estimates the town will save roughly $10,000 to $12,000 on payroll service. Harris Local Government, the makers of the software, quoted Greeley a one time fee of $9,877.50 for the conversion, with an annual fee of $687.50.

She estimated the date for the new payroll software to go live would be at the beginning of October, at the start of a new quarter. Greeley also added the new software has a learning curve to it, but she is confident in town office staff’s ability to adapt to the new software.
