The Winthrop Maine Historical Society plans to host folk singer Rob Roberts at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Winthrop History and Heritage Center, 107 Main St.

The free one-hour concert will feature classic Irish songs with the history of each song presented in between.

By the end of the 19th century, the immigrants from Ireland were an integral part of the Maine social fabric. Some of those immigrants settled in Winthrop, according to a news release from the society’s Mary Richards.

Roberts, a North Monmouth resident, began playing music at an early age and eventually settled into the Celtic music space. Originally from Northwest Florida, he has been a member of the Pensacola based Celtic rock band A Drunker Shade of Green since 2012, opening for Celtic music acts like Gaelic Storm, Young Dubliners and Enter the Haggis.
