PETERSBURG, Va. — Ella Lavigne was unstoppable in the fourth quarter as Central Maine Community College rallied for a 63-51 victory over Miami University-Hamilton in a United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II national tournament second-round game Monday on the campus of Richard Bland College.

The third-seeded Mustangs (28-1) trailed the sixth-seeded Harriers (9-10) by a score of 44-43 entering the fourth quarter, then started the final frame on a 9-0 run to take control of the game, which was the first of the tournament for CMCC.

Lavigne scored the first six points of the fourth, and only a missed free throw sullied an otherwise perfect shooting period. The freshman was 7 for 7 shooting from the field in the fourth and finished with 15 points in the frame.

Lavigne compiled game-high totals of 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Rosa Prieto, whose 3-pointer capped the Mustangs’ 9-0 run to start the fourth, finished with 10 points, as did Mikenzie Melendez off the bench. Edward Little graduate Chantel Ouellette stuffed the scorebook with six points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block, and Destiny Mora Lopez put up six points and five rebounds.

Former Oxford Hills standout Molly Corbett had three points and three rebounds as a starter for the Mustangs, and Rangeley grad Winnie LaRochelle came off the bench and pulled down five rebounds.

Kaitlyn Simpkins scored a team-high 11 points for Miami-Hamilton, which was held to 26.5% shooting for the game and 17.6% in the fourth quarter.

The Mustangs face No. 7 Christendom College (25-5) in the semifinals Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Virginia State University. The Crusaders defeated No. 10 Penn State-Shenango in a first-round matchup Sunday and then upset No. 2 Penn State Beaver in Monday’s second round.
