CHESTERVILLE — The North Chesterville Extension Homemakers from the UMaine Cooperative Extension in Franklin County are planning a bake sale for Friday, March 15, at the Chesterville Town Hall, located at 409 Dutch Gap Road. The bake sale will coincide with the town’s municipal elections, both of which are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

According to Linda Gramlich of the North Chesterville Extension Homemakers, the bake sale will start at 1 and go until all their baked goods are sold. This bake sale is the first of three bake sales that are scheduled to take place this year, with the other two slated for June and November.

According to Gramlich, proceeds from the bake sale are saved for the needs of the town. Examples include a benefit supper for burn victims, providing meals for families in crisis and the chicken barbeque for last year’s Family Fun Day.

“We also donated $500 to the playground committee to help build the playground,” she shared. Gramlich stated that they will have a variety of homemade baked goods made by the Extension Homemakers.

“Everybody does I guess what you would call their specialty for the members of the group,” Gramlich said, “and that is what we have on our bake table.”

Following the bake sale, the North Chesterville Extension Homemakers will also be hosting an Easter egg hunt at the Chesterville Town Hall on Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. sharp.

The homemakers ask all those who wish to participate to be there early as the egg hunt is slated to begin at 2 p.m., and it will go until all the eggs are picked up. “Last year, we were all done by 2:30,” Gramlich shared.

Gramlich explained the rules of the egg hunt, in which every child that participates will get three eggs and then return to the starting point, then it will be free for all. She said this was in the interest of fairness so that all the children will at least get three eggs.

“We’ve found that it’s hard because the older children can overrun some of the little kids,” Gramlich said. “So what we try to do is have one area for the smaller children, and another area for the older children.”

Gramlich said the eggs would be made of plastic and filled with candy by the homemakers themselves the Friday before the event. Other gifts, such as coloring books, crayons and stuffed animals, will be available for the children to choose from.

The Easter Bunny will be present, and will be played by Stephen Welch. Gramlich also shared they have alternative locations set up in case the weather is not cooperative.
