Starting in 2005, she was Bethel’s Deputy Town Clerk. In October 2017, she became Bethel’s Finance Officer.

Hanscom said, “This was an extremely hard decision for me to make but the opportunities that Maine Rural Water Association are giving me will allow me to continue to grow as an individual and an employee.

“I am truly going to miss a lot of things …the job itself has always been a challenge but in a good way. It is different every day and is like having many pieces of a puzzle that need to be put together.

“My co-workers have been nothing but supportive and like a family to me throughout the years. They are all really great and the Town of Bethel should feel lucky to have them all. Kristy Aguilar, Jessicca Grover, Scott Sumner, Mike Jodrey, and of course David Hanscom [Amy’s husband] always go above and beyond their required duties to make sure the job gets done. I see this firsthand every day,” she said.

In her new position at Maine Rural Water Association, she will be a financial specialist.

Hanscom’s Ford Explorer with the license plate “Resqmom” has been the first one in the parking lot behind town office most mornings.

Asked if she will stay on as assistant deputy chief of Bethel Rescue, Hanscom responded, “Yes, the Town cannot get rid of me that easily. I have worked for Bethel Rescue since 1997. I do not have plans to give that up at this point. I love serving my community. I know many would argue that it is a job, not a service to the community, but that is simply not the case. If you are working for a municipality, you are serving your community.”

Aguilar said of Hanscom, “we’ll miss her a lot!”

Former Town Manager Natalie Andrews who wished her well, too, said, “Having worked closely with Amy, I’ve witnessed her exceptional skills and unwavering commitment.”
