AUBURN — The Drop-in Center group gathered in March at the River Valley Community Center.

Those in attendance received a T-shirt with the program logo, and shared a meal provided by DaVinci’s. Some training was provided by Greg and Sue Whitney and Kitsie Claxon to support the volunteers.

This is a volunteer program which, during its two years of operation, has provided more then 12,500 volunteer hours and served over 8,200 hot meals for the unhoused, according to a news release from Virginia Starbird, center volunteer and board secretary.

The center provides meals for the unhoused from 9 a.m. to noon every Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 169 Pleasant St.

In addition to meals there is a clothing closet, tents, sleeping bags, personal products and the opportunity to shower.

The program is successful mainly because of the volunteers and their commitment to serve the unhoused.

The center’s endeavor is supported by the community by providing many donations.
