The following colleges and universities recently announced area students’ academic achievements during the 2023 fall semester.

Simmons University

BOSTON, Mass.  — Two local students were named to the 2023 fall semester dean’s list at Simmons University.

They are Hannah Groves of Durham and Adey Ahmed of Lewiston.

To qualify for dean’s list status, undergraduate students must obtain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, based on 12 or more credit hours of work in classes using the letter grade system.

Western New England University

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Bryant Pond resident Lacey Tilsley performed in spring musical “The Rocky Horror Show” April 12-24 at Western New England University. In this 1975 cult classic that features memorable raunchy rock ballads such as “Time Wrap,” “Damn It Janet,” and “Science Fiction Double Feature,” the audience is offered a wild and electrifying journey filled with audacious plot twists and infectious energy.

In her second production with Stageless Players, Tilsley worked diligently as tech. Previously, she did spotlights for “Twelve Angry Jurors” and participated in tech for numerous productions in high school. Lacey is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Stonehill College

EASTON, Mass. — Benjamin Keleher, a member of Stonehill College’s Class of 2026 from Topsham, participated in the 2024 National Model United Nations Conference in New York City March 23-29. The Stonehill delegation, which represented Nepal on 10 different committees at the conference, ranked in the top 15% among 250 colleges and universities from over 35 countries.

Each National Model United Nations committee includes between 15 and 193 member states and up to 25 non-governmental organizations. Committees are responsible for producing resolutions recommending policy solutions to world issues.

Champlain College 

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Six local students have been named to the 2023 fall semester president’s list at Champlain College for achieving a grade point average of 4.0 or higher.

Luc Evans of Lisbon is majoring in computer betworking & cybersecurity.

University of Maine

BATON ROUGE, La. — Five local students recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

CLINTON, N.Y. — Rylee Lyons of Durham was recently named to the 2024 New England Small College Athletic Conference winter all-academic team for women’s indoor track and field. The recognition honors sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Lyons, a sophomore majoring in psychology and sociology, is a graduate of Freeport High School.

Furman University

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Anna Berkes of Winthrop made the 2023 fall semester dean’s list at Furman University. The list is composed of full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a four-point system.

Bates College

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Seth Thomas of Kingfield has graduated from South Dakota State University following the summer and fall 2023 semesters.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Jay Krzyston of Naples has earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Krzyston was among approximately 6,300 undergraduate and graduate students to be presented Georgia Tech degrees during the Institute’s 265th Commencement exercises Dec. 15-16, 2023, at McCamish Pavilion.

Zhanbo Lin of Wilton earned the distinction of Faculty Honors for fall 2023 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have earned a 4.0 academic average for the semester.

Emerson College

BOSTON, Mass. — Emerson College student Kailey Pelletier from Readfield participated in Emerson Stage’s production of “The Impracticality of Modern-Day Mastodons” from Jan. 24-27 at the Jackie Liebergott Black Box Theatre.

Written by Rachel Teagle and directed by Joshua M. Feder, the comedic production follows the ambitious character Jess, who wants to be a mastodon when she grows up.

Western New England University

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Western New England University named the following students to the 2023 fall semester president’s list.

Students who complete at least 12 credits of classes and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.5 in a particular semester are cited on the dean’s list for that semester.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute

WORCESTER, Mass. — Four local undergraduate students have made the 2023 fall dean’s list at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The criteria for the list differs from that of most other universities, as WPI does not compute a grade point average. Instead, WPI defines the dean’s list by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

Springfield College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Braxton Rowe of Turner and Ethan Vattaso of Wales have made the 2023 fall semester dean’s list at Springfield College.

The criteria for selection to the dean’s list are as follows: The student must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework for the term, exclusive of “P” grades. The student must not have any incompletes or missing grades in the designated term. The student must have a minimum semester grade average of 3.5 for the term.

DUDLEY, Mass. — Keegan Choate of Winthrop achieved President’s List honors during the 2023 fall semester at Nichols College.

President’s list recognizes those students who achieve high grades during a single semester. Students whose semester average is 3.85 or higher for at least 12 undergraduate credit-hours and no grades below B- will receive President’s List honors.

Georgia State University

ATLANTA, Ga. — Austin Bergeron of Raymond was named to the 2023 fall dean’s list at Georgia State University.

To be eligible, degree-seeking students must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken at Georgia State during the fall or spring term, with no incompletes for the semester. Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all classes taken at Georgia State.

The College of St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. — Ethan Livingood of Bethel was named to the 2023 fall dean’s list at The College of St. Scholastica.

Dean’s list members have achieved a 3.75 grade point average or above on a 4.0 scale.

Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades which are GPA applicable earning at least a 3.30 quality point average.

MONTCLAIR, N.J. —  Bailey Michaud of Lewiston, a dance major, has been named to the 2023 fall dean’s list at Montclair State University.

To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Regis College

WESTON, Mass. — Three local Regis College students have been named to the university’s 2023 fall dean’s list.

They are Olivia Bell of Lisbon Falls, nuclear medicine major; Elle Picard of Lisbon, nursing major; and Casey Whittaker of Topsham, dental hygiene major.

To make the list, Regis sophomores, juniors, seniors, and professional studies students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher; first-year students must have a GPA of 3.25 or higher.

The College of Our Lady of the Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. — Amanda Raymond of Auburn was named to the 2023 fall dean’s list at The College of Our Lady of the Elms.

Commonwealth University

MANSFIELD, Pa. — Allyson Lewis of North Monmouth has been named to the 2023 fall semester dean’s list at Commonwealth University Mansfield campus.

To qualify, the student must have earned a GPA of at least 3.50, on a 4.0 scale, in 12 or more semester hours of letter grades.

Eastern Connecticut State University

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. — Three local students have been named to the 2023 fall semester dean’s list at Eastern Connecticut State University:

Daniel Cifelli of Auburn, a full-time junior who majors in communication.

Kiana Webster of Raymond, a full-time junior who majors in new media studies.

Lasell University

NEWTON, Mass. — The Lasell University fall dean’s list includes local students who have completed at least 12 credits as a full-time student in that semester and have achieved a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.

They include Grace Martin of Farmington, Carlie Leavitt of Greene, Riley Silvia of Raymond and Amelia Farrin of Topsham.

Grove City College

GROVE CITY, Pa. — The following local students were named to the fall semester dean’s list at Grove City College.

Lydia Bennett of Bethel, a communication arts major, has been named to the dean’s list with distinction. She is a 2021 graduate of Gould Academy and the daughter of George and Jennifer Bennett of Bethel.

Kaylynn Johnson of Otisfield, a Psychology, Bachelor of Science degree major, has been named to the dean’s list with high distinction. She is a 2021 graduate of homeschool and is the daughter of Alan and Charity Johnson of Otisfield.

Christian Viekman of New Gloucester, a computer science major, has been named to the dean’s list. He is a 2023 graduate of Greater Portland Christian School and is the son of Timothy and Denise Viekman of New Gloucester.

Students eligible for the dean’s list have a GPA of 3.40 to 3.59; for the dean’s list with distinction a GPA of 3.60 to 3.84 and for the dean’s list with high distinction a GPA of 3.85 to 4.0.

Springfield College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Springfield College recognizes local dean’s list students for academic excellence for the fall semester.

They include Emma Hanna of Bowdoin, Madison McIntyre of Bridgton, Reese Merritt of Raymond, Giles Paradie of Auburn, Kaitlyn Plummer of Naples, Trevor Robbins of Poland, and Christina Scheid of Fryeburg.

Stonehill College

EASTON, Mass. — Six local students have been recognized for academic excellence and have been named to the 2023 fall dean’s list at Stonehill College.

They include Jacques Ouellette and Lucy Frenette, both of Lewiston; Jace Hollenbach of Topsham, Lucas Pushard of Auburn, Taylor Belanger of Lewiston and Benjamin Keleher of Topsham.

To qualify, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have successfully completed all courses for which they were registered.

Roger Williams University

BRISTOL, R.I. — Three local students have been named to the fall dean’s list at Roger Williams University.

They include AJ Fournier and Luka Kovacevich, both of Auburn; and Delaney Meserve of Waterford.

Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher are placed on the dean’s ;ist that semester.

State University of New York at Canton

CANTON, N.Y. — Erin Anderson, a SUNY Canton sports management major from Lewiston, earned a spot on the fall semester president’s list at the State University of New York at Canton.

President’s list recognizes full-time students who achieve a 3.75 or greater GPA during a single semester.

Plymouth State University

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Several local students have been named to the Plymouth State University president’s list for the 2023 fall semester.

They include Maren Pinkham of Norway, Megan Verrill of Auburn, Lucas Johanson of Greenwood, Derrick Brousseau of Lewiston, Ethan Mousseau of Litchfield, Megan Cox of Bethel and Sophie Miller of Waterford.

Also, Anyah Fields of South Paris, Bethany Pratt of Topsham, Morgan Bilodeau of Lewiston, Dylan Flewelling of Oakland, Amber Lafrance of Greene, Sidney Hatch of Oakland and Lydia Pinard of Gray.

Also, Reilly Brown of Stow, Jonathan Boos of Naples, Kaitlyn Montelongo of South Paris, Jeromey Rancourt of Lewiston, Emma Couturier of Turner, Holly Temple of Topsham and Kay Bailey of Lewiston.

Also, Libby McIntyre of Greene, Brady Martin of Auburn and Gabrielle Gladu of Lewiston.

To be named to the list, a student must achieve a grade point average of 3.70 or better for the semester and must have completed at least 12 credit hours during that time, at least nine of which must confer grade points, at the time the lists are finalized.

Plymouth State University recognizes four local students who made the 2023 fall semester dean’s list: Lily Terry of Gray, Molly Pereira of Bethel, Nicole Cox of Bethel and Leah Maheux of Greene.

To be named to the list, a student must achieve a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.69 during the 2023 fall semester and must have completed at least 12 credit hours during the semester, at least nine of which must confer grade points, at the time the lists are finalized.

 

South Dakota State University

BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State University named Seth Thomas of Kingfield to the 2023 fall semester dean’s list.

Thomas, who was one of nearly 1,500 students received a 4.0 GPA, is a student in SDSU’s College of Nursing.

Clarkson University

POTSDAM, N.Y. — Cassidy Ann Dumont of Norway, a junior majoring in psychology, was named a Presidential Scholar for the 2023 fall semester at Clarkson University.

Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average and carry at least 14 credit hours.

Corbin Matthew Bourgoin of Sabattus, a junior majoring in global supply chain management, was named to the 2023 fall semester dean’s list at Clarkson University.

Dean’s list students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.

Hofstra University

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Francelia Depalma of Carthage, during the 2023 fall semester at Hofstra University, achieved a GPA of at least 3.5 to earn a spot on the dean’s list. Depalma’s major is English.

Lehigh University

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Owen Vincent of Auburn has been named to the 2023 fall semester dean’s list at Lehigh University.

Dean’s list status is awarded to students who earned a scholastic average of 3.6 or better while carrying at least 12 hours of regularly graded courses.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute

WORCESTER, Mass. — Two local Worcester Polytechnic Institute students, both of the class of 2025, have completed intensive research projects.

Ava Chadbourne of Sweden, majoring in computer science, completed a project titled Monitoring Parking at Logan Pass.

Dominic Brunetti of Lewiston, majoring in electrical and computer engineering, completed a project titled Assessing Improvements for Planning Networking Events.

At Worcester Polytechnic Institute, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-driven, professional-level project that applies science and technology that addresses an important societal need or issue. About two-thirds of students complete a project at one of the university’s 50-plus off-campus project centers, which are located around the world.

A signature element of the innovative undergraduate experience at WPI, the project-based curriculum offers students the opportunity to apply their scientific and technical knowledge to develop thoughtful solutions to real problems that affect the quality of people’s lives, and make a difference before they graduate.

York County Community College

WELLS — Celina Irazzary-Perry of Topsham has graduated with an Associate in Science degree in education from York County Community College.
