Olympia J. Snowe, of Auburn, widow of legislator Peter Snowe, will seek nomination to a full term in the Maine House of Representatives, in the Republican election this June.
Mrs. Snowe is a member of the 106th Legislature, having won a special election last year called to select someone to complete the term of her husband, who died in an auto accident during the regular session.
Mrs. Snowe served seven weeks of the regular session and returned to Augusta in January for the current special session. In making her announcement today, Mrs. Snowe had this to say:
“Serving as representative to the Maine Legislature has been the most fulfilling and rewarding experience, and therefore I have decided to seek reelection to the House of Representatives. I believe that having gained experience in the political process during my first term in the legislature will prove to be of value in providing for the City of Auburn strong and active representation. I sincerely hope that my voting record reflects responsiveness to the wishes of my constituents, because their interests and concerns have been my major consideration.”
