DEAR SUN SPOTS: A friend of mine lost her cellphone March 5 and is hoping someone picked it up and will return it to her.

The phone is in a light lavender case. Most likely it was dropped in the parking lot at Dollar Tree at the Auburn Plaza at 730 Center St. If someone found it, please call me at 212-8155. — Mona, no town

ANSWER: This request was originally printed in Sun Spots on March 15. Mona is asking to call a different phone number than previously shared if this phone is found.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Why are the gates always closed at the little park on Lincoln Street in Lewiston? — Kevin, no town

ANSWER: According to Thomas J. Murphy, manager, environmental compliance for Unitil, this park has been restricted to vehicle parking beginning in the summer of 2022. Pedestrian access has never been restricted, and vehicle parking is available in the small parking lot across from the park at Locust and Lincoln streets.

The park has been subjected to repeated vandalism, with a surge noticed during the pandemic years, along with an increase in abandoned drug paraphernalia and weapons, and illegal vehicle maintenance occurring in the parking lot.

These activities appeared to have been tied to vehicles having ready access to the park proper. Since the gates have been installed, Unitil has experienced a notable decrease in all these activities. At present, there are no plans to reopen the park proper to vehicle access, given the nearby parking lot.
