The Town of Rangeley Board of Selectmen convened for its scheduled meeting on March 18th, 2024, addressing a variety of community matters.

The meeting commenced at 5 p.m. with a declared quorum. Non-profit organizations presented donation requests for the fiscal year 2024/2025, covering a range of community services and initiatives. Notable requests included the Chamber of Commerce seeking $60,000 and the Rangeley Public Library requesting $46,365.

Ron Smith from RHR Smith & Company provided a comprehensive overview and analysis of the Town of Rangeley Financial Audit draft report. The fund balance grew from 2022 to 2023, attributed to the reappropriation of unspent funds. Smith recommended reviewing capital plans and projects for the upcoming years, leveraging funds from the Build Back America Infrastructure package.

Following the financial report, the Board addressed various agenda items, including appointments, investment authorizations, and contract extensions. The discussion also covered Oquossoc Park Phase 1 Bid Opening, with the Board approving a bid from Khiel pending a Town Meeting Vote.

New business items included amendments to Select Board Bylaws and the development of a Tax Acquired Policy for tax foreclosures. Correspondence was addressed, including concerns about traffic speed through the town center.

Town Manager Joe Roach provided operational updates, including the transition to a four-day (Monday – Thursday) workweek for the town office starting April 29th. The Highway Garage heat pumps are up and running. TIFF application pending, which will be a town meeting vote.  The Fire Department is moving to a new system.  Due to price increase jumps in the old software, it is a reporting software system.  A letter from Senator Collins regarding the Beth Brunswick Memorial Fund childcare facility funding for $750,000 was acknowledged, along with updates on legislative matters and a reminder about the Community Health Services Access Needs Assessment Public Meeting at the school on March 27th. Other important dates were covered as follows: The Board of Selectmen will hold a budget meeting on March 25 at 6 pm at Town Hall in the conference room. BOS Budget Public Hearing – OQUOSSOC FIRE STATION March 27, 2024, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM Zoom will not be available.  Reminder for April 12, 2024:  Warrant Articles, Nomination Papers, Voter Petition for Article in Warrant Deadline and Certification of Proposed Ordinance are Due to the Clerk and the Call for Election.

Executive sessions were held to discuss labor negotiations and personnel matters, concluding without action. The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m., reflecting the Board’s commitment to addressing community needs and fostering transparency in governance.
