The Maine Nordiques couldn’t put away the Rochester Jr. Americans in regulation.

No matter. After the Jr. Americans scored in the final minute of regulation, the Nordiques scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of overtime for a 4-3 win Saturday in Rochester, New York.

Charles Tardif fed Luke Chappelle for the game-winning goal with just under 18 seconds left in the five-minute extra session.

The Nordiques (37-14-6, 80 points) squandered a late lead when Matteo Disipio scored his second goal of the third period for Rochester (33-18-7, 73 points) with less than 14 seconds remaining in regulation and the Jr. Americans having pulled their goalie.

Laurent Trepanier gave Maine the initial lead with an unassisted first-period goal.

Keanan Dewberry tied it for Rochester in the second period.

Zion Green and Tomek Haula scored third-period goals for the Nordiques, with Kellen Murphy, Nils Forselius, Cole Hipkin and Matthew Lewis providing assists.

Carter Richardson stopped 42 of 45 shots for the Nordiques. Cole O’Donnell made 26 saves in regulation before being pulled for an extra attacker with 1:41 left. He made three more saves in overtime.

The win clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs for the Nordiques, who still have a chance to win the NAHL’s East Division if they can overtake the Maryland Black Bears.

Maine finishes the regular season next weekend, with games at the New Jersey Titans on Friday and Saturday and the regular-season finale at the Philadelphia Rebels next Sunday.
