June A. Barclay

LIVERMORE FALLS – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of June A. Barclay, 89, at her home on Sunday, March 24, 2024.

June was born in Livermore Falls on June 2, 1934, the daughter of Joseph and Yvonne (Roy) Veilleux. A 1953 graduate of Livermore Falls High School, June worked in Lynn, Mass. prior to her marriage to George A. Barclay on April 17, 1954, in Kittery. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2014.

Their life together began on Pleasant Street in Livermore Falls before they purchased 26 acres of family property in Livermore to begin building The Homestead. June was a hard worker and could be seen carrying cement blocks and shoveling sand and rock to mix cement for the foundation. Over the years she also discovered a special knack for refinishing furniture and trim throughout the house. The birth of her three boys, Barry, Scott, and Craig, proved to be a handful when added to her homemaker job!

When her husband and three of his brothers purchased a lobster boat, June and the boys pitched in to refurbish it, turning it into a pleasure cruiser for family trips to Grampa Barclay’s camp in Harpswell. While apprehensive about this adventurous turn in her life, June dove right in, packing big family lunches and going island hopping around Casco Bay, picnicking, having big lobster feeds and camping out. She was a great cook and was happiest when hosting large Thanksgiving feeds and Christmas Eve parties at The Homestead for most of the extended Barclay family. She also enjoyed rousing games of Bridge with great friends Norman and Bernice Bilodeau, while their combined group of seven boys all played together. Loving and kind, she treasured taking care of her grandson, Benjamin.

June is survived by her son, Barry Barclay and his wife Trudy, of Fayette, son, Scott Barclay and his companion Brenda Oliver, of Jay; and her nieces Cathy, Julie, and Tammy and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents, her stepfather, Erwin Szawlowski; husband, George; sister, Connie; son, Craig; grandson, Benjamin; and cousin and dear friend, Louise Chabot.

Many thanks go out to her excellent caregivers, Gail, Rollie, and Kim.
