LEWISTON — ArtVan and LA Arts are set to host a spring ArtBar from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at LA Arts’ headquarters, 168 Lisbon St.
ArtVan and LA Arts will guide attendees in recreating a story through the use of altered journals, using discarded hardcover books and altering them using drawing materials, E-Xacto knives, paint, tape, and other materials, according to a news release from Jaimie Crawford with ArtVan.
Registration is required; tickets cost $15 each and can be purchased at artvanprogram.org/artbar.
ArtBar is a concept created by ArtVan, and is a regularly scheduled fund-and-friend raiser, bringing people together at local establishments, where participants create a piece of art following a theme and project determined by ArtVan. All materials are provided, as well as lite bites.
No art talent is needed to join. ArtBars follow a similar outline to actual programming where ArtVan staff lead the group in a “check-in” question, and then it’s off to creating.
ArtVan is a mobile art therapy program, bringing art therapy to core neighborhoods and community partnerships throughout Maine. Lewiston and Auburn make up two areas ArtVan serves each week.
LA Arts is an arts agency for Lewiston and Auburn, supporting the essential role the arts play in shaping an economically robust, socially integrated, and forward-looking community. It works with governments, businesses, schools, and local arts and cultural organizations to create opportunities for community members across generations to experience, learn, and participate in the arts.
