Little chicks are one of the symbols of the new life that comes at Easter time.

For many years, these soft and cuddly little chicks were dyed many colors and sold as gifts to children. This was very cruel and most states have ruled that it is against the law to sell them as pets.

They are so small that a hug could crush their little bones. They have to be kept at temperatures of around 90 degrees during their first days of life. This is hard to do without an incubator.

Chicks are really only so cute for just about a week, then they begin to lose their downy feathers as they start to grow into adult chickens. They cannot be housebroken, so that’s another reason they do not make good pets.

Most chicks are raised in hatcheries or on big chicken farms in incubators and never know their mothers. There are two types of chickens. One is raised for meat and the smaller size is raised for the eggs they lay.

The material used in Looking Back is produced exactly as it originally appeared although misspellings and errors may be corrected.
