Clarence Patrick Letourneau

LEWISTON – Clarence Patrick Letourneau, 92, of Lisbon, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024 after a brief illness at St. Marys.

Clarence was born on June 17, 1931 the son of Edmund and Yvonne (Plant) Letourneau in Lewiston and attended local schools in Lewiston.

Clarence spent two years serving his country in the U.S. Army serving in Germany as a sergeant first class. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and traveled to many conventions around the country for the National Swimming Pool Institute.

Once leaving the military, he returned to his home town and married the love of his life, Irene M. Gendron in February of 1952 during a very large snow storm. This was something that they always remembered and talked about.

For many years he worked at Lewiston Gas Company and did carpentry with his father. In 1962 Clarence opened the first pool company in Maine, Merit of Maine, and installing the first pool in the State of Maine. Merit of Maine became what is now known as ABC Pools and remains in the family when his son Dan purchased the business in the mid ’80s.

Clarence worked to the age of 55 before he decided that he wanted to begin spending the long winters in Florida with his wife. They loved to travel and would frequently take some original routes to Florida in their motor home. One of those trips consisted of Maine to California to Florida and it brought many memories that are still shared today. After retirement, Clarence always joked that he had moved more than anyone because he was a house flipper in both Maine and Florida. He would purchase the house, renovate it, live in it and sell it, doing this over 20 times.

Clarence loved to entertain both in Florida and Maine. Having family and friends over the house and having pool parties was one of his favorite things to do. During this time you would always be able to find cookies or chocolate around the house, Clarence’s favorite snack. When he was entertaining at home he loved to be on the water in a boat again having family and friends join him. Clarence will be remembered by his family as a man that was always there to support them in their decisions and not force them into one direction or the other. He would share his thoughts and stand behind them as they made their own path always reminding them to keep their nose clean.

Clarence is survived by his wife Irene of 72 years; eight children, Daniel and Diane Letourneau of Lewiston, Gary and Jane Letourneau of Florida, Doris and Arthur Bourget of Lisbon, Andrew and Debra Letourneau of Colorado, Debbie and Jim Daigle of Buckfield, Peter and Karen Letourneau of Wales, John and Michelle Letourneau of Mechanic Falls, and Scott Letourneau of Massachusetts; siblings Henry and Tina Letourneau of Sabattus, Denise and Dan St. Onge of Lewiston, and Diane and Tom McCarrick of New York; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; several aunts, uncles; nieces, nephews; and friends. He was predeceased by his parents.

The family invites you to a time of visitation on Friday April 12 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Fortin Groups newest location at 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated on April 13 at 11 a.m. with military honors to follow immediately at The Fortin Group, 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway in Lewiston.
