Winthrop Maine Historical Society’s 2024 speaker series is set to run from Thursday, April 11, to Thursday, Nov. 14.

The schedule is as follows:

April 11 — Arborist Pete Bohman from the Maine American Chestnut Foundation;

May 9 — Lynne Roberts Reed and Leon Roberts from Roberts Funeral Home;

June 13 — Kenny Wing: Penobscot Expedition, Benedict Arnold and the march to Quebec;

July 11 — Bob Pelletier: Winthrop Cemeteries;

Aug.  8 — Squire Town Squares: Traditional Square Dancing;

Sept. 12 — Kerry Wilkins-Demming: Winthrop Apple Orchards, Part 3;

Oct.  10 — Jennifer Phillips: History of the Grange; and

Nov. 14 — Phil Morse: Seashore Trolley Museum.

Bohman begins the WMHS Speaker Series in April as Maine observes Earth Day and Arbor Day. With the help of mentors, he has been involved with planting, cultivating, and growing chestnut trees since the early 1990s. In 2013, after retiring from a career in shipbuilding, he took charge of the orchards in East Winthrop, assuming the maintenance and upkeep of the trees.
