BETHEL — The Ethel Bisbee Committee will present its findings on how best to use the empty lot at the end of Philbrook Street in a report to be published April 12 on the Town of Bethel website.

It will present the report in person and answer questions at an April 17 Bethel Select Board meeting at town office at 6 p.m.

The Town of Bethel bought the Ethel Bisbee School in 2014 and in 2023 the Board of Selectmen voted to raze the school. It was its consensus that the 1.75 acre property would offer the most opportunity as an empty lot.

The report will contain: an executive summary outlining the report as a whole; a full presentation of the qualitative and quantitative data the committee has collected as well as its offered analysis of the data; its process and findings;  recommendations to the select board; the series of tools to be used in the case that the select board decides to open a call for applications for the use of the lot; and a series of appendices with additional valuable content that it has collected during its time on this project.

They reminded townspeople in an email that the committee was not tasked with deciding what happens at the site; but charged with determining a process for the town to evaluate ideas and inform an objective, transparent, decision-making process.

The committee members are: Chair Bridget Remington, Vice Chair Katie Getchell, Beth Allen, Travis Brooks, Faye Christoforo, Sarah DeCato, Lee Hughes, Charlie Raymond, & Tom Zicarelli. Non-voting members are Select Board Chair Meryl Kelly and Former Chair of the first Ethel Bisbee Committee circa 2017, Jim Bennett.
