James “Michael” Payton

MEXICO – James “Michael” Payton, 70, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024 at his residence in Mexico.

Michael was born in Augusta, Ga. on Sept. 2, 1953 and was the son of James and Nell Garrison Payton. He attended and graduated from Georgia schools.

Michael worked for many years as a pipefitter prior to his disability. Michael lived for his family and dogs. His wife, daughter, and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Michael was a jack of all trades and an avid golfer before his injury. Playing golf was something he and his daughter enjoyed doing together.

Michael married the love of his life, Tina Tononlini, who survives, of Mexico. Other survivors include his daughter, Lorinda “Miki” Skehan and husband, Mike, of Rumford; a sister, Sue South and husband, Tim Jacques, of South Carolina; grandchildren, Brooke Auger, Gabriel Skehan, Garret Skehan, and Devin Skehan; his nephews Steve Hardigree, Scott Hardigree, James “Jim” “Jamie” Harris, Joey Harris; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Michael was predeceased by his parents; son, Isaac; sister, Brenda, and brothers Jack and Marian.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 24, in Rumford.
