BRUNSWICK — A seven-run fifth inning helped Bowdoin defeat Bates 13-8 in a NESCAC baseball game Friday.

The Polar Bears (12-10) also scored three runs in the third and eighth innings. The Bobcats (11-10) plated three runs innings in the fourth and seventh innings, and scored once in the sixth.

Luke Chessie drove in three runs for the Polar Bears, while teammates Reuben Siegel, Kevin Murray and Cal Thompson each had two hits and two RBIs. Thompson’s double was the lone extra-base hit for Bowdoin. Will Bordes, Aidan Carey and Ben McKenzie contributed an RBI each.

Noah Jankowski homered and batted in two runs for Bates. Keagan Ryan belted three hits, including a double, and drove home two runs, and Jack Brennan, Chis Cimino, Henry Prince Gibby Sullivan each drove in a run in the losing effort.

The teams meet again on Saturday in Lewiston for a doubleheader starting at noon.
