Patricia Johnson, an information technology specialist at Naval Ordnance Test Unit at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, retired March 31 with 36 years and four months of total federal service behind her.

The former Lisbon resident has planned to return to Maine.

Johnson started her career in the U.S. Army as a 75C — personnel management specialist where she managed unit manning rosters; requested personnel replacements for soldiers transferring from post to another; produced those transfer orders and other necessary documents to support a soldier’s move; and then in-processed new soldiers as they reported to the command.

She served nearly five years of active duty in the Army and active Army Reserve just shy of six more years.

After leaving the Army and starting a family, Johnson bounced around to several different jobs as many military spouses do, until her husband got an assignment in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. While there, Johnson landed a civilian position with the Army for the Saudi Arabian National Guard, where she was finally able to get her “foot in the door” of the civil service opportunities.

In 1997, Johnson started working at Naval Ordnance Test Unit as a mail and file clerk; a job she held from a little more than three years before getting accepted into her current position.
