Pauline J. Leveque Gilbert

LEWISTON – Pauline J. Leveque Gilbert, 90, died on April 14, 2024 at Montello Manor. A lifelong resident of Lewiston, she was born on April 28, 1933, the daughter of Pierre and Rose A. (Dionne) Leveque.

She married Robert M. Gilbert in September 2001. She was a graduate of St. Peter’s Grammar School and St. Dominic High School. Initially employed by Senter, Giroux, Canniff & Co. department store, she then worked for a number of years at Universal C.I.T. locally. She also worked for Canal National Bank and Farm Credit of Maine, retiring as Treasurer and Chief Operations Officer of this latter firm in March 1995, after 20 years’ service.

A member of Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica of Prince of Peace Parish she served there as lector and extra-ordinary eucharistic minister, was a past Chairperson of the parish council, member of various parish commissions, and past Chairperson of the Diocesan Christian Initiation Board. Pauline also served as the director/coordinator of the Adult Initiation Process for the parishes of St. Patrick/Sts Peter and Paul for 6 years.

She was a member of the 1991 and 2002 Capital Campaign Cabinets to restore the church building at Sts. Peter and Paul and served as Chairperson of the Leadership Division in the latter campaign. She later accepted the role of volunteer Campaign Office Manager and volunteered at the Pastoral Center for many years.

Pauline was named Volunteer of the Year at the Basilica in 2000 and was a recipient of the Diocesan Immaculate Conception Medallion during the celebration elevating the church to a Basilica in May of 2005. She had been Secretary of the Saints Peter and Paul Society, a past member of both SCORE and of the board at USM LA Senior College.

She was a Dame Grand Cross in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; brothers Roland, Bertrand and Lucien Leveque and sisters, Ida (Sr. Myriam, o.p.) Leveque and Rita M. Tetreault.

The family invites you to a time of visitation on Friday April 19 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Pinette, Dillingham and Lynch Funeral Home, 305 Alfred Plourde Parkway followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at The Basilica of Sts Peter and Paul, 122 Ash St. Lewiston and a committal service at St. Peters Cemetery in Lewiston.
